The PC based 4 Ball Tester is a completely automatic, PC based analytical instrument used for conducting and recording the results of “4 Ball tests” of lubricants. The refined design of the mechanical load arm, coupled with imported sensors and a state of the art digital circuit ensures high speed data acquisition, which in turn is feed into the PC based software running on a host PC for analysis. It provides accuracy, repeatability and reliable test results to ensure proper testing of samples and this system has the unique feature of displaying Real Time graph of Time Elapsed v/s Frictional Force. The design has high degree of automation to ensure minimum human intervention.
Loading arm and chuck:
The upper single ball is hold on a special rotating chuck, connected to a variable speed motor (Speed to be set as per the test). The lower 3 balls are fixed on a round chuck capable of being filled with lubricants/ lubricating oil as required and these balls are not allowed to rotate. This chuck for the lower ball is set on a self-aligning bearing to ensure that the rotating ball is in the exact centre of the fixed 3 lower balls. The loading arm is fixed so that it exerts an upward pressure on the lower fixed chuck depending on the load on the arm. The frictional force of the rotating ball with the 3 stationery balls is measured by a load cell fixed to the stationery chuck.
Data acquisition and software:
The load cell and the motor are controlled by a dedicated software (Windows based software, and provided by us) running on a Host PC. Once the tests are started the High speed data acquisition system connected to the load cell feeds the frictional force data, to the software for further analysis as mentioned below.
